For over 30 years the Massachusetts Wildlife Federation has been a leader and an advocate on conservation issues. The Federation has played a key role in:

  • recognition of outstanding conservation efforts (since 1965)
  • celebration of National Wildlife Week and distribution of free materials to schools (since 1965)
  • passage of the federal Fishery Conservation and Management Act (1979)
  • pass of Massachusetts' bottle bill which has encouraged the recycling of reusable resources (1992)
  • support of the state's Wildlands Protection Act which secured more than 40,000 acres of wild lands in its first five years (1990)
  • establishment of Stellwagen Banks as a marine sanctuary (1992)
  • support of educational programs including Project WILD, Mass. Junior Duck Stamp Program, the Envirothon, and Becoming an Outdoors-Woman.
  • support for the Massachusetts Rivers Protection Act.
  • support for the passage of the federal Fish and Wildlife Conservation Enhancement Act.
  • increasing public awareness of issues involved in managing wildlife in urban and suburban areas.
  • monitoring proposed legislation which has implications for wildlife management and for environmental quality.
